The Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) is launching this campaign to promote and strengthen women’s full exercise of their human rights in the Americas.
The state of the exercise of women’s rights is a barometre of the quality and effectiveness of democratic governance and systems in the Americas. Latin America and the Caribbean is the developing region that has made the most progress on formally recognizing women’s rights- from the adaptation of national legislation to the international and Inter-American legal framework to the implementation of policies and programs designed to reduce the gender gap. This formal recognition, however, has not translated into the real exercise of these rights.
The #MoreRightsforMoreWomen campaign will be conducted through social media and will focus on the dissemination of content, images, videos and news stories concerning actions undertaken by different social actors intended to expand and strengthen the effective exercise of women’s rights in the political, economic and social spheres of the Americas.
Through this activity, the CIM seeks to promote and strengthen initiatives from different sectors (civil society, government, private sector, international organizations) that promote effective, innovative, inclusive and multicultural solutions in order for women to exercise their human rights. This campaign will also allow for denouncing those practices that undermine women’s rights and perpetrate inequality and discrimination.
On December 10th, International Human Rights Day, the CIM invites you to join this campaign and contribute to more rights for more women.
